Early Professionals Committee

Chaired by Jamie Nash

The Early Career Professionals Committee (EPC) is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of early career professionals within the transfusion. This committee plays a vital role in supporting emerging professionals by providing mentorship, professional development opportunities, and a platform for their voices to be heard. The committee also seeks to enhance membership engagement and foster collaborative relationships within the field and other societies.

Dr Jamie Nash is a Post Doctoral Research Scientist at the Welsh Blood Service. He began his BSc in Biomedical Sciences at Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2015, where he also started working as a medical laboratory assistant in haematology and transfusion from 2017 until the end of his degree. He then went on to complete his PhD in 2022. His PhD research specialised in optimising platelet storage, including research on cold-stored platelets and modulating storage conditions.

In recognition of his contributions to platelet storage research, Dr Nash was honoured with the prestigious Scott Murphy Memorial Lectureship Award from the Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion Collaborative in 2022. His current research is centred on the utilisation of cold-stored platelets for pre-hospital treatment of major haemorrhage, funded by Health and Care Research Wales, for which he is the principal investigator. Dr Nash is a STEM ambassador and has a keen interest in developing others within the field to inspire the next generation of transfusion professionals.
